The presentation of the 2017 AIPC Innovation Award candidates was accompanied by a Pecha Kucha presentation and poster session for entries and an opportunity for members to vote for their own choice as to the best innovation alongside the selection made by the formal Award judges based on a detailed analysis of entries. As a result, there were two awards made from the wide range of projects submitted for consideration:
The Overall 2017 Innovation Award was made to the Palais des congrès de Montréal for the “Urban Agriculture Lab”: a series of projects dedicated to the greening of 31,500 sq. ft. of Palais rooftops and experimenting with urban agriculture technology and techniques. Because of the Lab, the Palais des congrès has become the main showcase for experimentation and promotion of urban farming technologies and techniques in Quebec.
The 2017 Delegate's Choice Award was made to the Cairns Convention Centre for their highly innovative response to the question "What Do You Do With That Old Roof?". The innovation is a corporate gift made from recycled steel salvaged during the Centre’s roof replacement. The gift is a manta ray, one of the great eight iconic residents of the Great Barrier Reef. It is a simple innovation that evolved from a negative situation and delivered several measurable outcomes.
The 2019 AIPC Innovation Award will be held in conjunction with the 2019 Annual Conference in Antwerpen.
